EDITORIAL: "Among Friends"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: My Kickstarter obsession was started by Danielle Harris. And, would you look at that. Two years after my initial entry into this crazy addiction, I am finally seeing light at the end of this tunnel.

So, what this is, I suppose, is a small retrospective, on what got me into the Crowdfunding scene. It all started here, at the end of July 2011. Back then, I was getting really involved in Twitter, I was tweeting more often than I think I had any business doing. But, when you are trying to establish your little corner of the internet, you have to do something, right? Naturally, I followed the obligatory celebrities, because you never know when one might drop a little info about a project that  am excited about.

My obsession with horror movies lead me to the Twitter account of Danielle Harris, and one day, I noticed she was looking to secure funds for a movie project she was working on. When I found out that I could actually contribute, and help in a small way, I was pretty psyched. Add that the very close finish on the project, and the rush that caused, and is there any wonder I got hooked?

Since then, I have backed 39 other successful projects, and backed two others that were canceled before they finished. Because of my love for the crowd-funding concept, I have been trying to draw people's attention to those projects that I believe are interesting, and that I would pledge for myself, if I had unlimited funds. Whenever possible the projects I direct people toward are relatively affordable to get in on. If I feature them, that is my personal stamp of approval... Honestly, I am pondering using our logo, and telling those projects that are featured, that they can proudly bear the "Slamfist Approved" stamp on their Kickstarter page, but that is a matter for another time.

I want to circle back to the original reason for this post. Danielle Harris, and "Among Friends". After 2 years of waiting, this movie is finally up for pre-order! With a ship date of August 27th!
